How Much Does It Cost to Charge an EV in Singapore?
What EV charging costs in Singapore, at home and in public, and how it compares with petrol.
Kiat Goh
- A 48kWh top-up, enough for about 300km, costs about S$15 at home, S$33 at the median public alternating-current (AC) rate and S$39 at the median fast direct-current (DC) rate.
- All three cost less than half what a petrol car spends on fuel for the same distance.
- The cheapest charger open to the public is S$0.43 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), at the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates' Guild on Dover Road.
- This page gives monthly costs by distance, home against public charging and what else adds to the bill.
As of 16 October 2026, the median public rate for electric vehicle (EV) charging is S$0.70 per kWh for slow AC charging and S$0.81 per kWh for fast DC charging.
The cheapest public charge
Lowest listed rate in Singapore: S$0.34 per kWh, at the Schneider Electric Building on Kallang Avenue. Those chargers are for the staff who work there, not the public, and the revolt.sg charger map marks them "Restricted access".
Cheapest open to the public: S$0.43 per kWh, on a 7.4kW AC point run by Eneready at the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates' Guild on Dover Road (postal code 139658).
The Graduates' Guild is a clubhouse. But its car park is open to non-members, who pay for parking on top of the charge.
Non-members pay S$1.20 an hour, charged by the minute, to park at the Graduates' Guild clubhouse from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays, there is no parking charge at the Guild from 7.01am to 10.30pm.
The Guild's parking charges are also shown on its card in the revolt.sg charger map.
Take a charge on the Guild's 7.4kW AC point, from Monday to Saturday.
- Time: each hour adds at most 7.4kWh.
- Charge: S$0.43 per kWh.
- Parking: at least S$0.16 per kWh.
- Total: at least S$0.59 per kWh.
Lowest DC rate on the map: S$0.39 per kWh, on a 30kW unit at Millage on Changi Road, which the revolt.sg charger map marks "Possibly restricted" because visitor access is not confirmed.
Cheapest fast DC open to the public: S$0.50 per kWh, on a 180kW ultra-fast unit in the same Graduates' Guild car park. That is the lowest confirmed public rate for DC charging at 50kW or more.
Parking at DC speeds: it adds little. For a car that charges at 50kW on average, S$1.20 an hour of parking adds about S$0.02 per kWh.
IKEA: its Alexandra and Tampines stores both charge S$0.45 per kWh for AC charging run by Charge+: 22kW points at Alexandra, 7.4kW at Tampines. At both stores, charging is open from 10am to 10pm daily, and the charging lots are only for cars that are charging.
IKEA Tampines: at 60 Tampines North Drive 2, Singapore 528764, it works out cheaper than the Guild from Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 10pm, because there is no parking charge there in those hours. The revolt.sg charger map shows IKEA Tampines' parking charges too.
How much does charging cost a month?
The tables below show what it costs to charge an EV for 500km to 2,000km of driving a month, at home and at three public rates, next to a petrol car.
They assume the EV uses 16kWh per 100km and the petrol car uses eight litres per 100km. These are the price index's own assumptions, carried forward from June 2026.
The end of the page explains how the numbers were worked out.
| Rate | Per kWh | Where | Open to the public? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest confirmed public AC | S$0.43 | One 7.4kW point at the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates' Guild, 1010 Dover Road, Singapore 139658, run by Eneready | Yes. Its car park is open to non-members. Non-members pay S$1.20 an hour to park, Monday to Saturday. The Guild's parking charges are also shown on its card in the revolt.sg charger map. |

Against petrol: even on fast DC, an EV costs less than half as much per kilometre.
Home against public: charging at home costs less than half the median public AC rate.
The cheapest public AC column: one 7.4kW point at the clubhouse on Dover Road. It leaves out the club's parking charge, which the revolt.sg charger map also shows.
Few drivers can do all their charging there.
Is it cheaper to charge at home or in public?
Home is cheaper for a driver who can charge from their own home's electricity supply.
Home tariff: SP Group's regulated tariff is 31.16 cents per kWh with GST from 1 October to 31 December 2026, or 28.59 cents before GST. That is less than half the median public AC rate of S$0.70.
At 1,000km a month: charging at home costs about S$50, against about S$111 at the median public AC rate.
The Energy Market Authority regulates the tariff and revises it every quarter, so the home figures on this page hold until 31 December 2026.
A driver who buys electricity from a retailer on the Open Electricity Market should use their own plan's rate instead.
The home figures also leave out the cost of buying and installing a home charger.
Condominium chargers run by a charging company cost that company's rate, not the tariff.
Housing and Development Board (HDB) car parks: charging there costs more, at about S$0.65 on Charge+ and just under S$0.70 on SP Mobility, the largest network.
These are public chargers run by operators.
Parking is charged separately. The revolt.sg charger map shows parking charges for many car parks.
The revolt.sg public charging guide has the rate for each operator at HDB car parks.
A driver who charges at a public AC charger overnight is charging at the busiest time.
On weekdays around 3am to 4am, no plug was available at about 16 per cent of public AC sites.
From 8am to 6pm on weekdays, no plug was available at about 5 per cent of those sites or fewer.
Is an EV cheaper to run than a petrol car?
Yes, at every rate in the tables.
Take a petrol car that uses eight litres per 100km, with Premium 95 at S$3.57 a litre.
- Petrol: S$28.56 per 100km, or about S$286 a month at 1,000km.
- EV at the median public AC rate: S$11.12 per 100km, or about S$111 a month at 1,000km. That is about S$174 a month less than petrol.
- EV at the median fast DC rate: S$12.91 per 100km.
- EV at home: S$4.99 per 100km, which saves about S$236 a month on petrol at 1,000km.
Petrol price: the S$3.57 is Caltex's pump price for Premium 95 before discounts. After Caltex's own site discount, it was S$3.39.
A petrol car that uses six litres per 100km would spend 25 per cent less on fuel.
These figures cover fuel and electricity only, and leave out road tax, insurance, servicing and the price of the car.
What else adds to the bill?
- Parking: it is charged on top of the electricity, at the car park's own rate. At HDB car parks, cars pay S$0.60 per half-hour outside the Central Area. In the Central Area, they pay S$1.20 per half-hour from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and S$0.60 at other times. Some busy HDB car parks charge more at peak times. Outside the Central Area, that is S$0.80 per half-hour. Inside it, that is S$1.40 from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and S$0.80 at other times. So two hours at an HDB car park outside the Central Area adds S$2.40 at the normal rate. Malls, offices and clubs set their own parking rates. The revolt.sg charger map shows parking charges for many car parks.
- Time on a slow charger: a 7.4kW AC point, a common size here, adds at most 7.4kWh an hour. That is about 46km of driving at 16kWh per 100km, and the driver pays for parking the whole time. The revolt.sg charger map shows each charger's speed, and the parking charges for many car parks.
- Idle fees: some operators charge drivers who stay plugged in after charging ends. SP Mobility charges S$0.50 a minute after a 30-minute grace period, up to S$40 a session. Its idle fees apply from 10am to 10pm at all its HDB car parks and some other sites, and at any hour at petrol stations. The revolt.sg public charging guide lists each operator's idle fees.
How the numbers were worked out
- Energy use: 16kWh per 100km, so a 48kWh top-up covers about 300km. A car may use more or less, and its app or trip computer shows its own figure. For a car that uses 20kWh per 100km, multiply the EV figures by 1.25, which is 20 divided by 16.
- Public rates: the latest rates in each part of the island are in the Singapore EV Charging Price Index.
- EV cost: 1,000km at 16kWh per 100km takes 160kWh, which costs about S$111 at the median public AC rate.
- Lowest listed rate: S$0.34 per kWh, on MNL's 22kW AC chargers at the Schneider Electric Building, 50 Kallang Avenue, Singapore 339505. The revolt.sg charger map marks the site "Restricted access" because the chargers are for staff only. The lowest DC rate on the revolt.sg charger map, S$0.39 on Wes Cares Energy's 30kW unit at Millage, 55 Changi Road, Singapore 419709, is marked "Possibly restricted" because visitor access is not confirmed. None of the costs on this page uses either rate.
- Parking at the clubhouse: the S$1.20 an hour is the club's rate for non-members. The same S$1.20 an hour also applies from 10.31pm to 7am on Sundays and public holidays. The Guild's parking charges are also shown on its card in the revolt.sg charger map.
- Home rate: 31.16 cents per kWh is SP Group's regulated tariff with GST for 1 October to 31 December 2026.
- Petrol cost: 1,000km at eight litres per 100km takes 80 litres, which costs about S$286 at S$3.57 a litre. The price is Caltex's Premium 95 pump price before discounts. Caltex last updated the price on 8 October 2026.
