Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng has joined forces with Singapore-based charging operator Charge+ to launch an extensive fast-charging network across Southeast Asia. The partnership aims to address the growing demand for convenient and rapid charging solutions in the region, with Singapore serving as a key hub.
The new network will initially cover Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, with plans for further expansion into Indonesia and beyond. The collaboration will see the deployment of DC fast chargers with speeds of up to 350kW, offering significantly reduced charging times for EV owners. XPeng has also announced its intention to introduce its own 480kW charging technology to the network, which would enable a 10-80% charge in just 12 minutes — setting a new benchmark for charging speeds in the region.
This strategic alliance is a significant development for the EV landscape in Southeast Asia. As the number of EVs on the road continues to grow, the availability of a robust and reliable fast-charging infrastructure is crucial for supporting this transition.
A Boost for Singapore's Charging Ecosystem
The partnership between XPeng and Charge+ will provide a welcome boost to Singapore's public charging network. While the number of charging points has been increasing steadily — the network hit 28,000 points earlier this year — the availability of high-speed DC fast chargers remains a key factor for many potential buyers. The new network will not only increase the number of fast chargers available but also introduce cutting-edge technology that will further enhance the charging experience.
For XPeng owners, the partnership will offer the added benefit of discounted charging rates at all Charge+ and affiliated charging stations. This will help to reduce the total cost of ownership and make EV ownership even more attractive.
The expansion plans for the network also point to a growing trend of cross-border collaboration in the EV sector. As EV adoption continues to gain momentum across Southeast Asia, the development of a seamless and interoperable charging network will be essential for enabling long-distance travel and promoting regional connectivity. For Singapore, which sits at the heart of the region, this kind of infrastructure investment is a significant step forward.
